Technically just as demanding as my first piano concerto, this one is somewhat more elegant, more delightful. It dwells on the polarity between dramatic outbursts and contemplative moments, between unbridled playfulness and lyrical tenderness.
It is certainly not boring, either to the orchestra or to
the conductor, either to the soloist or - hopefully - to
the listener.
The score was composed in Titusville and completed on June 9, 2011. It is dedicated to the memory of
Gaby Crawford.
