op. 21
I started composing this concerto as my usual relief routine after the long and exhausting work on "Nathan".
The first movement I wrote turned out so unusual, burlesque, and crazy - it had to be the final movement.
Then, I wrote what is now the first movement - light and fluffy, somewhat reminiscent of my "Spring" symphony.
Then, I had to put my dog Sassy to rest, and there was nothing burlesque, crazy, light, or fluffy on my mind anymore. The middle movement turned out to be a "Nenia", a lament with all the emotions unleashed by my companion's death.
Thus, this concerto reflects the entire range of moods, from utter joy to utter grief, from unbridled playfulness to helpless fury.
The score, begun in February of 2014, was written in Titusville and completed on July 16th, 2014.
